This is pretty clumsy and time consuming but try searching by index number.
Right click on the message body and view "properties" for any post- like yours- and you'll see the index number at the end of the URL-
http://habitablezone.com/geek/messages/317296.html
Go to the space board and copy and paste a URL from a current message into the address bar. If you reduce the index number by 10,000 and hit go, it will get you back to threads that were posted around Jan 3 2004.
Unfortunately you can't search an entire page. If you hit 'Table of Contents' you will be taken back to the current page.
Once you get close to the date of your post, just cut the increment down. On long threads look at the index number for the beginning or end posts - then you can view the next/previous thread.
I once went back two years this way. It was a pain in the ass and took almost an hour to find the thread. But you know, It was kind of a kick to re-read what people were talking about back then, in fact I think I'll go do so "Diving" on the CE board.
Good luck
Rob
BTW I think Robert started the index at 100,000

- Some thoughts on search engines and Google in particular
- Not quite what I had in mind. . .
