It goes back to ease of repair
It is much easier to drive a manned rover a few kilometers from a moon base than to launch a special mission to a deep space telescope. Again, I'm not against deep space telescopes, I'm just pointing out a benefit of moon based telescopes: Unending science return due to ease of repair and upgradability (assuming a nearby base).
