I've never considered "ethnic cleansing" to necessarily mean the "final solution". In the case of Israel and the Palestinians I believe it means the Israelis will make their lives so miserable through measures like unnecessary roadblocks, cutting off water and electricity, tearing down houses and refusing permits to build new ones, AND terrorism such as random artillery rounds into civilian neighborhoods -
that they would move.
I do not think the Israelis are attempting to "exterminate" the Palestinians, though I truly believe Sharon would if he thought he could get away with it.
So - as I use the term "ethnic cleansing" does not imply "extermination". It just means getting rid of them, as the Americans did with the Native Americans. Come to think of it, is the Gaza Strip a reservation?
