Opportunity heat shield

I made a sudden decision to come to the LPSC in Houston and just saw the MER and MEx talks. I'll leave it to Nick to update the geology findings but I will mention some operational news. Ray Arvidson talked about Meridiani and showed a map of future plans and a visit to the heat shield. After that the path goes towards the SSW.

Squyres indicated Spirit might stay at Bonneville until Sol 90 making a traverse about 1/4 around the rim before heading for the hills. But no final decision has been made.

He also said that their projections of the health of the rovers showed them "still going strong" at Sol 240. Someone else gave a talk on atmosphere measurements and the dustiness has significantly cleared at both sites, which helps the power generation.

Given the extension of the missions they are having to look hard at reducing operational costs.
