Looks to me that in a fight where there are only losers, they've already won.

But first, regarding an Islamic Iraq, the US is building the largest embassy in the world there, you can bet your booties they are building permanent military bases, and will keep a very large contingent of people in the country. For as long as they can. (Look at Germany, Japan and Korea. No need for 'em, but they're there.) The US will keep puppet governments in place. There will be no "elected" regime which will be independent.

And in the constitution will be written, in one form or another, that the US can stay in-country, and that Halliburton's contracts will be honored. (Iraq's oil is in effect Halliburton's and the US Armed Forces will guard it. The propaganda hiding this will be intense.)

The US reaction to WTC has been such that al-Qeada has succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. US civil rights have been eroded, a fortune spent on non-productive security precautions, the US treasury emptied and then some with an unnecessary invasion, big parts of the ROW now views the US with distrust, at best, and the American President is regarded as the biggest single threat to peace by a significant part of the educated world.

All of that from one attack which could have been prevented by GWB & Co. At least the chairman of the commission trying to investigate the tragedy says. And is a reasonable inference based upon GWB & Co. hiding what they did know from the American people. (They hide stuff for a reason - and they're willing to "out" a CIA agent to punish her husband. So much for "national security" reasons for hiding.

There is no "winner" when your responses create a bigger, stronger, more motivated enemy. And bankrupt yourself in the process. No chance of winning.
