Might want to skip at least some of the self-flagellation

We found out what was going on with Iraq's weapons programs after almost a year of thorough inspections by hundreds of people completely unimpeded by any restrictions imposed by Saddam, the Iraqi military, or any other Iraqi authority. A lot of things were found that the anti-war people are pretending aren't there, but that's another story.

It is ludicrous to assume that Blix and his crew could ever have dissected the Iraqi weapons programs to this same extent, given the known concealment and non-cooperation of Iraq at that time. Much was found later that the U.N. not only did not find, but never would have found, given another ten years of inspections, including definite violations of the cease-fire agreement. These facts seem to be overlooked by a lot of people.

Going into Al Capone's vault is a lot easier when Al Capone isn't standing there.

Compare Iraq's resistant behavior under inspections for almost ten years with what Libya is currently doing in just a few months.

Hindsight is glorious. Blix is selling a book, and like anyone who tells the Left what they want to hear, is going to be a hero.

And do I have to go over again the United Nations (and Blix) missing Iraq's original nuclear program back before Gulf War 1, missing much of Libya's operations recently, missing the Pakistan nuke ring, and even as we speak, being run around in circles by Iran? Not exactly a sterling record. Why should we have assumed a sudden attack of omniscience last year in Iraq? Do I have to remind people that "no massive stockpiles" is not the equivalent of "no violations?"

When one says "we were wrong," it is important to distinguish: wrong about stockpiles of weapons, or wrong to attack given the information (or lack thereof) we possessed last year before David Kay spent almost a year digging?
