re: IP spoofing

Hello, I hope you can resolve this dilemna for me. My friend and I have been receiving threatening messages from a stranger who admitted to breaking into one of my email account (they tried breaking in again 4 more times registering the same IP address). I traced the sending IP address and it turned out to be another friend of mine. Is it possible that someone hacked into her network and use her IP address to send me these emails. She denied she did anything. Thank you for your time. Sorry if this is the wrong forum.
