Snowball Earth
750,000,000 years ago, Earth experienced a brutal temperature fall (50 degees C in perhaps 1,000 years) (because of the sole landmass on Earth splitting through tectonic plates. It seems to have happened several times, until there were enough living organisms able to expell enough CO2 and prevent any further complete "icehouse".
