re: Some observations about the alternate history thread

Hey Robert,

It was a good thread. It allowed me to think out a few scenarios I hadn't thought of before. I was going to balance the Cuba scenario with another alternate of an invasion where the nukes fizzled and the invasion went off without a hitch. Richard Nixon would have been vaunted to most popular President position. With that Vietnam would have been a sure thing and fought very aggressively with conventional means. China would have surely entered the war, but perhaps there was a way to mitigate that as well. Something to think about in the least.

I used to dislike the alternate histories genre. I thought they were such a waste of time. In thhe past couple of years as I've broadened my range of reading, I have discovered that when done properly, they can actually be useful tools in understanding history. I do believe (like Larry J said in the thread) that their are pivotal people that hold our lattice of history together. Without them, things could be much different than they are today.

Thanks for starting the thread.
