Cassini is now approaching the Saturn system and will soon begin an extremely
important campaign of Space Exploration. However Cassini almost did not make
it off of Earth. An educated prostitute named Michio Kaku saw the launch of
Cassini as an opportunity to gain free publicity for a book that he was publishing.
Even though Kaku was trained in physics, he deliberately misrepresented Cassini
as a threat to all life on Earth due to the plutonium carried in Cassini's RTGs.
As a physicist, Kaku knew that the radiation burden from earlier nuclear
weapons tests far exceeded any conceivable threat from Cassini. Suprisingly,
Kaku's deception influenced several members of Congress including two
senators. One senator was Barbara Boxer (Dem., Calif.). Boxer has the
dubious distinction of being one of the worst senators in the United States
Congress (fooling her was no big achievement). The other senator was
John Kerry (Dem., Mass.).
Google "Cassini Kerry" if you want to learn more.
