re: SHORT MEMORY

But Larry you got to remember that Davin and the other clueless don't consider US airstrikes to be war. They only consider it war when ground troops are used. Therefore the only time we were *actually* at war with Iraq was when we used ground force in '91 and again in 2003.
The other magic trick is that once US soldiers put on the UN blue helmet, they disappear. The 7,000 US troops in Kosovo can't be seen, nor the 13,000 UK forces, 8,000 Germany, 7,000 French, or 5,000 Italians who have remained invisible for 5 years in Kosovo. The UN has developed a *special way* of "fighting": they try to not get involved, and focus on force protection. And if they actually run across a real miltary force, opposed to small gangs of civilians murdering each other, they do a fast retreat. Bush of course has blown it, because he has failed to get the magic disappearing blue helmets. Also, if you do the math, since Kosovo has about 40,000 UN forces with population of around 2 million, Iraq would need around 400,000 UN troops. But there could a need of less UN troops, because civilians have tendency flee from areas in which there is UN forces, so you might only need about 300,000 UN forces.

The UN has had this unique power of making troops invisible since it was founded- for instance they also made the entire Korea "war" disappear. And if it wasn't for the TV program M*A*S*H , the clueless wouldn't know anything about it. Another trick the UN likes to do is divide countries up- this potentially gives the UN more members- which a good thing because then that makes the UN is more democratic. So with the UN Iraq would probably be already divided into about 6-8 different sections- though it would probably depend on how many nations were actually involved, naturally.
