re: The one decisive advantage of the Marquardt Ramjet

The D-21 with a Marquardt Ramjet engine had a 3000 nm un-refueled range. Since it had no payload except spy cameras it could use it's entire airframe to store extra fuel.

The F-15 also has a 3000 nm un-refueled range. Rather that is the F-15's ferry range, outfitted with maximum fuel capacity and 3 external fuel tanks, no weapons or other payload whatsoever.

If an F-15 had MIPCC units bolted-on to its compressor inlets and it performed the "zoom" maneuver during it's flight, then it would be using its afterburner at the same time. With an 8000 lb paylad (rocket & microsat) use of the afterburner would probably reduce its un-refueled operational radius to just 250 nm (guestimate).

I would therefore propose to extend the range of MIPCC-equipped aircraft, such as RASCAL, by flying in formation with a tanker aircraft --- not piggyback, in formation. This arrangement might extend the operational radius of MIPCC-equipped aircraft to 7000 nm or more, which would allow access to as many airports as possible around the world, with as few "void" zones as possible, i.e. zones where an ARMXER rendezvous is not within range of an airport with an MIPCC-equipped rendezvous aircraft.

The 767 tanker can be fitted with either boom and receptacle refuelling, hose and drogue refuelling or both. The US Air Force is planning to replace some of its older KC-135 Stratotankers with the 767 tanker transport. Coincidentally, the 767 is also the platform for the 767AWACS Airborne Warning and Control System, introducing some clear opportunity for off-the-shelf and on-site command & control for ARMXER Orbital Skyhook rendezvous!
