Many's the casual conversation at the checkout counter in the grocery store that has been sparked by a tabloid headline. "Now I know," remarked the man behind me. He pointed at the headline that claimed Marilyn Monroe was bitten by a vampire (cover photo, so it must be true!), and was killed by the Secret Service to prevent her from biting JFK. We speculated back and forth how the equipment for such an execution would have appeared on the expense report. He speculated that any old piece of wood could have been used to drive a stake through her heart, but I'm less sure of my vampire lore...
