Current Events » in reply to Condoleezza Rice: Under fire and no longer untouchable

Something very strange.

In my opinion, Rice is either going to make a great PR appearance, and "rescue" the Bush Administration from this mess, OR

she's being thrown to the (gulp!) dogs, and will have to fall on the sword, to mix metaphors. Or be pushed onto the sword.

Neither of those will have to be an "event", but could be a process. The PR may not work, and then the second would kick in. However, in an Administration which cannot admit mistakes, she may not be sacrificed.

In any case, the FBI and CIA leadership has been strangely immune to any changes during this entire process. Those political appointees are usually the first to go when the President and/or his advisors get embarrassed. And they haven't gone. In spite of all kinds of blame heaped upon their agencies, their leadership is still there. (I know, Mueller was a latecomer in a way, but not in another way. And he would have had to fire some of the underlings.)

My guess is that they have such devastating information re GWB that, like Hoover and about everyone, they are fireproof.

One can only guess what that is, but may involve what GWB knew about the attacks before they happened, may involve Cheney's energy policy determinations including an invasion of Iraq, that sort of thing. All conjecture, of course. ("Kenny-boy" Lay - he's still free as a bird, isn't he? Why? Does he know something in the energy policy arena which makes him immune?)

Oh, well. We'll see, some of it at least. But Tenet and Mueller may know a lot more than let on, so far.
