Hey, I'm not complaining. Much. I just wanna GO SEE!
A set of real lenses would give you a closeup view with the same resolution CCD.
However, I can see where this may have been a serious weight issue. Lenses, good ones, are not light. I would bet that the designers thought of telephoto lenses, but discarded it in favor of other experiments and capabilities that were much more essential.
