We have two levels of local imaging detail already - Navcam and Pancam - but I think you're right, something with perhaps 4 - 10x the 'zoom' of pancam would be very valuble and certainly feasable on perhaps the MSL in '09. Doesnt need stereo imaging at that range, there is no point, so a single device would do it, perhaps mounted between the local stereo-pair imaging devices.
