In this day-and-age where any attempt at consensus building or discourse turns into cold hostility at the very begining of differences- Yes, there is a touch of 'fight club'. While I think one figment of American Society is fixated on dehumanizing and demonizing 'the other side' more than another figment- there certainly is enough of this to go around to taint both sides of the current political divide.

In a lot of ways, I let off steam here that I have accumulated from dealing with the nacent political culture where anyone who does not march lock-step is a terrorist sympathizer, and anyone who dissents is a dishonest rat-fink liar. I run into exactly that kind of mentality here, but unlike "the real world" I can confront it without losing a job. I tend to kick the hornets nest in reality, too, but again- out there one must choose ones battles carefully.
