The outcropping in the gully in your Opportunity image is interesting. I have run through several theories on how that ditch formed, but I don't like any of them (Mainly having to do with it being of chain impact origin, or some kind of volcanic fissure). It doesn’t look like it was eroded by water.
I need to be there with my hand lens and rock hammer.
