I almost didn't follow your link, because it looked like you were picking on the very least important part of my post to respond to. Did and found there is some sort-of on-point stuff in there.
His point number 1: He's got gripes about military funding, supplies, benefits, etc. and he lays it at the feet of Byrd, Kennedy, and Kerry???? What kind of a partisan freaking moron would not realize that it's the party in charge that's responsible???? Let me say that again for emphasis and because it's fun: partisan freaking moron!!!!!!!!!
His point number 2: "Aren’t there enough issues to differentiate you without turning an issue that the entire nation should be behind..." This is more of the same silly stuff. There are no issues in a democracy that everyone "should be behind". The point is that everyone, Mr. Libertarian, makes up their own mind on what to be behind. Wars are just about the most critical issues you need to decide on and get right. War is not an issue that is unimportant enough that we can consider it to be undiscussable. Get real.
Look: If you are a cop, you need to get used to the idea of there being an IAD. It does not mean that anyone thinks you're a bad cop. It just means that somebody has to watch for bad cops in general. It does not show a lack of support for, or traiterous hatred for cops. Who gives a shit if its existance, gives some criminals the idea that cops can be bought?
Nother one: If you are a democracy, you need a free press. The free press is guaranteed sometimes to publish information that will hurt the society. Again, that is the cost of doing business. To not have the free press would be far worse.
More specifically: You think you've got a bad war, foisted on you by stupid people you speak up. It may be that there are some bad side effects. That's the cost of doing business. There are no side effects more destructive to your democracy than: no one speaking up.
People in the military should know going in that this is the case, just from history. Recruiters should point it out a few times. They should say it a few times in training, as well. The American public and its officials will not support every action you are called upon to fight. Don't take it personally, and get over it.
