Current Events » in reply to The Bush death count - its purpose

Good post.

Your posts are definitely worth reading when it isn't just a repetitive count. How about more analysis and commentary, and less cookie-cutter stuff?

That being said, I do not believe we can just pull out now that we're there. We're stuck and the only course of action is to succeed at ultimately stabilizing the country. Unfortunately, the current administration is incapable of accomplishing this and will continue to make terrific mistakes that only mean more Americans will die and hundreds of billions more will be spent.

The first part of this is correct.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see any sign that Kerry, or any of the Democratic candidates, has any better idea than Bush has, which is basically to put our head down and plow through what needs to be done despite setbacks.

The bitter pill that Democrats have to swallow is that there is no magic solution to a stable Iraq that a new president will be able to bring to the table.* Kerry has said nothing of substance on this.

Insurgents will shoot Marines just as enthusiastically if Kerry is commander-in-chief.

The United Nations is not going to be any use in the military regime, although they can be useful in some political and humanitarian areas.

We have repeatedly asked for help from Europe, and told to go to hell. If Kerry becomes president, and asks the same question, and France says, okay, now that Bush is gone we can send our soldiers into harm's way, what does that say about France? I must admit, it wouldn't surprise me that they're operating at that level.

.

*Kucinich at least had a concept--bail out and let the Middle East go to hell.
