So when does the next oil shock come?

Okay, surprise, surprise: The oil companies and Arabs were lying about their petroleum reserves. So that raises the question: When do the oil shocks start coming? When do we start having long lines at the gas stations and gas is at $20/gal? There are ultra-efficient vehicles out there, e.g. powered with turbocharged, computer controlled diesel engines. Get one of those with a big fuel tank and you can drive over a 1000 miles on one tank of diesel. Is it time to buy one those or can I wait a few years?
