A creepy thought...
I was looking more closely at the images of Endurance Crater. It seems to me that most of the entire bottom is filled with dirt and dunes, with few or no major rock outcrops near the bottom.
What if Opportunity had rolled into this crater on landing instead of the little one? Unable to climb the steep sides, with outcroppings forever beyond reach, doomed to roll around in circles at the bottom looking at dirt and blueberries.
