Here. We badly needed to put pressure on Syria, which has been actively supporting and supplying the insurgency in Iraq. Not to mention being the source of chemical weapons that were going to be used by terrorists in Jordan.
All of which has been described in Pentagon press conferences with the stunning understatement that Syria has been "less than helpful" in the war on terror.
