Why would these rocks be eroded flat here while they get eroded into sharp, pointy shapes out on the flatlands?

I assume you've seen the great Opportunity raw images that came in yesterday, including a lot of new or cleaned-up panorama camera shots of the crater from previous sols.

Check out these dune shots from the bottom.

Is that the crater edge in this shot? Yipes! Watch your step!
