I wasn't thinking of those that don't speak English when I made the comments. I was speaking of the sub-culture that exists among those that think proper speech and some other intellectual pursuits are "too white" and that their values are a perfectly acceptable alternative.
I am also aware that there are plenty of white kids in this category. They have been, in effect, won over by the alternative, less demanding culture. This is the price we are paying for years of segregation when we should have been educating a much smaller black population in an integrated system thus creating social integration and black educators that were not a product of a sub-standard system.
We will eventually work through all this but it would help if black and white parents agreed with Cosby.
This is a completely different subject than the multiculturism that promotes a multi-lingual nation with very distinct and insulated cultural values but it is still a form of multiculturalism as long as there are blacks or whites that think it has any validity.
It is the nature of strong cultures to absorb weaker and less dynamic cultures. Diversity is enriching by the fact that no culture is totally absorbed. Positive imprints survive as part of the whole and pride in ones cultural heritage is fine and dandy.
