Proof that democracies are not fool-proof. When a democracy is run by fools, the result is foolishness.
That sort of trashes the idea of an alliance of democracies. Look at how the democracies cringed at the necessity of invading Iraq (abetted by plentiful bribery, of course). Even now, when the first of the WMD has reared its ugly head, Europe is still hiding its head in the sand (except for the UK, of course).
