We had a system exactly like that when the BP well blew. You might want to review the chain of events again, including the regulatory status. Key point: exactly how "adversarial" is a government regulatory monopoly?
Investors don't make money when things blow up. Stockholders don't make money when things blow up. Nobody makes money when things blow up.
Incidentally, down in Florida you're getting something like 80 percent of your electricity from natural gas and nuclear. Whatever those selfish bastards in the energy companies are doing to keep the power flowing, you better hope they keep doing it.
