I've been tracking these things, although someone like Podrock probably has his finger closer to the pulse than I do.
You have no idea what the "atlases" of the energy industry have accomplished just in recent years to keep the supplies of oil and gas coming. Reserves right now, due to new technologies, are a lot more impressive than they were just a few years ago.
Oil and gas are global resources. Energy Shell finds will be used by Americans, just as their oil sands projects in Canada will provide oil for us.
