Possibly hopeless.
I've been in that discussion before. Many of the folk around here are sincere when they say they can't distinguish between a soverign nation, Israel, and a religion.
They are honest, if mistaken, when they have accused me of being anti-Semitic for my criticism of Israel.
Sad, but true.
And I do believe that Israel and Mossad are not trusted by some of us because of what they have done, not because of any bias. I, for instance, was completely pro-Israel until I started looking into the matter more closely.
