Alan Shepard
Raoul .. do you (or anyone else) know if that famous pic is available online - Shepard in his silver suit striding, almost running to Freedom 7 for the launch? (I remember it from "Man and Space" (Time/Life, by Arthur C Clarke))
The incredible thing is that less than a month before (I think), Shepard was one of the observers as an identical Redstone exploded on the launchpad, in a test.
I'm really glad he finally made it to the moon ..
