With the underdeveloping world developing faster now than previously, the need for energy products will rise.
The amount of petroleum in the ground is FINITE and is NOT getting any bigger.
When the needs outstrip the supply, petroleum prices will shoot through the roof, suddenly. The economy will hit the proverbial concrete slab.
In order to prevent this, I propose a floor on energy prices (especially products derived from petroleum). This will provide lead time to prevent severe economic impact. It is sort of a parachute to avoid slamming into the pavement. It will allow capital formation for alternate energy projects.
No matter how much we explore, we will not produce a single drop of petroleum that was not already there. When an unlimited demand meets a limited supply, something must give. I just want it to give slowly.
