gas prices hype

while I do have a problem with artificially inflating gas prices to drive the market elsewhere, I think most of the hype about high prices is crap. Consumers need choices not market tinkering. When gas prices raise, people adjust. I was paying half what I am now for gas in 2000, but I'm still doing just fine. It means tightening up the budget and not taking that vacation to Utah this summer, but its not the end of the world for me. If you look at how steady the price of gas has remained for the past 20 years as opposed to the rise in cost of other things like steel, wood, or labor, gas prices have literally not moved much at all. We should be celebrating that they are as low as they are.

The one big concern I do have is that with higher oil prices some people can't afford to heat their homes in the winter time. I'm not sure what can be done about that though. People need heat.
