I was born shortly after Eisenhower started his second administration, so I have absolutely no memory of him. Kennedy was assassinated when I was in the first grade, so I have very little memory of him. I remember our school was having a Thanksgiving party when it was announced that he died, but like most first graders, it really didn't mean much to me at the time.
Of the presidents that I remember, Reagan certainly ranks at the top. So much so that I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who'd even come a distant second. Mostly, there's Reagan, some in the middle, then the dregs at the bottom of the heap. Ranking them in some kind of numerical order would be a pointless exercise.
It's kind of galling to hear all those who trashed Reagan during his lifetime who're now gushing over him. Somehow, I doubt they've had a change of heart.
As for the man himself, sometimes death can be a blessing. His suffering and that of his family is over now. Rather than mourning his death, I'm grateful for his life.
