It's ironic, Raoul, that I saw a TV history special this past week on the "Battle of the Bulge" where it documented the murderous activities, and blundering tactics and strategies of the Waffen SS
"panzer" divisions lead by SS Lt. Colonel Jochamin Pieper.
Lt. Col Pieper, a war-criminal, who escaped justice on this Earth, was responsible for the massacre of 100's of surrendered American GI's at Malmedy in the Ardennes, which only encouraged the Americans to resist more fiercely instead of terrifying them with that merciless slaughter.
Furthermore: Jochamin Pieper's SS "panzer" divisions were
deployed in the narrow Ardennes roadways in an incompetent
manner.
Jochamin Pieper's Russian battlefield experience [with its wide-open
flat expanses] betrayed him when it came to the Ardennes:
He blundered by putting the much slower Tiger tanks upfront
of his motorized panzer divisions in his drive towards St. Vith, Spa,
and Liege....
SS Lt. Colonel Pieper's Tiger tanks only had a top speed of 20 kilometers per hour [ even less in the narrow winding and muddy roads of the Ardennes].
When his Tiger tanks were slowed down, even temporarily stopped
by many obstacles, and military resistance, on those same narrow roads it slowed down all his motorized vehicles so that he could
not take St. Vith before December/23/1944...by which time his panzer divisions were short on fuel and still a long way off from
the city of Liege and the Meuse River.

The SS employment of terror only encouraged defiance and resistance.
