Mr. Lehman' s statement includes this phrase: " That still has to be confirmed."

The name is a common one. It's like finding the name "John Smith" on the rosters of two different organizations and instantly concluding that they are the same John Smith.

As for this:

And I would expect a news source to spell Al Qaeda correctly (I am not the best speller in the world, but I am not a reporter either) so how credible is your story anyway?

Arabic, as you may have noticed, is not written in Roman script, but in Arabic script. The English interpretations of Arabic words are nothing more than phonetic transliterations of the sounds of the words themselves. As long as that has been achieved and the reader understands what the term means, there is no error. There is only a difference in custom.

The authority of everything written about the city of Beijing is not dependent on its spelling. I remember when it was "Peking", and yet the facts about the city's history, geography and commerce were still correct. This, too, is a result of transliteration from a non-Roman script.

I know you want to be able to believe the President. I wanted to believe him too, because so many lives were at stake, but I can't, not any more. I find it sad that the authority of a source that points out ways in which the President's positions are in conflict with other facts is being impeached based on spelling.
