Now the big question; Where did the Pot of Gold rocks come from. Are they a local outcrop blasted from a crater, or rolled down Columbia Hills. Where they one rock that blasted from somewhere else on Mars (Like Bounce was).
If they are similar to Opportunities rocks, they couldn’t have been on the surface for long, as those rocks erode quickly.
I suspect they are local and that they formed in the farley deep lake that was in the crater. I think they present a deep deposit layer of rock that formed at the bottom of this lake. This water was fresher than the water over at Opportunity’s site.
Let me go way out on a limb. Apparently hematite has something to do with water on Mars. Does it also have something to do with life?
Space/Science » in reply to News Flash: The rover Spirit finds Hematite, too.
Cool!
