re: Sobering

I wonder if we could come up with more. Maybe health care issues, and matters such as abortion IF the fetus is really a part of the mother.

Marriage and death are two very private, very personal matters, and how an individual handles those for themselves would seem to be no one elses legitimate concern.

It's a measure of the Christian impact upon our society that we regard people as having to live until the last, miserable, helpless gasp, until God determines they should die. That's not necessarily the way in many other societies.

And marriage would seem to fall within that boundary, at least for me. Two people are married, the State is not a party to that union. And since it's not a party, I wonder why the State should be concerned.

Except for fairly well ingrained religious beliefs, taught since birth so that they seem to be Universal Truths.

I'll have to think about others. I suspect it's a small list.

I wonder why some folks think they have the right to bear any arm they wish and the Gov't should butt out, and that the State has the right to tell people they people don't have the right to die with dignity?
