It could be
...that the two events are coincidental, but that the arrest in Texas is being used to deracinate the man arrested in Pakistan. If enough of his own people are convinced he turned, then he can't go home again, and he may be more likely to give information in exchange for safety that he can no longer get if he were to be released or to escape.
Just a byzantine thought.
