Why do you think it will take far longer than that?

Why do you think it will take far longer than that? Just curious. Perhaps you figure that civilizations only last a couple of centuries (at most) after their members discover how to split the atom, and that while democracies don't go to "war" with one another, democracy will take that long to spread from Jefferson's Earth to the stars?
