Bigger GNP = health insurance for middle and lower class workers

Let's not talk about prosperity when so many people can't go to the doctor except on the government's dime. Except when their benefits are cut off.

Prosperity doesn't trickle down. Lately it's been trickling out, as the people who get the money make investments where they can make more, like Bangalore. And who can blame them? We are becoming less of a nation and more of a collection of special interest groups that happen to live in close proximity to each other. Why should they care?

Good for the Indians, I say. I mean, why not? But in the meantime, if our own capitalists aren't going to invest in their workers by providing health care benefits and training programs and living wages to people who work for them, who will make this investment? Prosperity isn't just about being better off than a dirt farmer in Ethiopia; it's about keeping up in the place where you are.

Business as a whole isn't making investments in their people. If it were, insurance wouldn't be an issue. Someone is going to have to make this investment if we want to make sure that upward mobility doesn't become just another lie. If the private sector doesn't do it, guess who that leaves?
