Creative ETI signalling methods- can you think up a beacon?

This is something I have looked into a bit and two of the best I have seen that do not presume unknown technology are the following:

1) Optical SETI: Lasers dont follow the inverse square law, and they are narrow band in wavelength- this means that while a planey may be lost in the glare of its sun, if it is projecting a laser at you and you do spectroscopy on it you would see an abnormal spike at the lasers wavelength... this would raise interest to say the least...

2) use your star as a transmitter: Dump large quantities of a rare element into the stars photosphere... again spectroscopy would show something odd about the star- dump an artificial element like tecnetium and that would be a dead givaway that intelligence and technology was at work... of course it would take a LOT of the element

Anyone have any other ideas?
