Detection before communication
It's my belief that a civilization would try to detect habitable planets before sending out signals for any possible intelligent life to receive. This would require space based interferometers to find terrestrial type planets with favorable atmospheric spectrums. If we could put large constellations of prisms into orbit around the planet to scatter sunlight, it would look very odd (and artifical) to anyone studying our planet from afar.
