Marijuana has ruined a lot of lives. Alchohol has ruined a lot more. I have never been drunk, or used marijuana on purpose.* My poor brain doesn't need any handicaps, thank you.
I have never seen the sense in treating these two substances differently in the legal arena. Either both should be decriminalized, with appropriate restrictions on age, sales, and driving under the influence, or both should be illegal. I tend to think the former approach is more practical. Cocaine, heroine, and other heavy drugs are another matter, and need to be dealt with separately. Interestingly, all these used to be legal, and somehow civilization survived.
This is why I usually refer to our present policy as the "War On Some Drugs."
