Weekly Analysis– 3/25/03 Goals of Iraqi War

By Kirt R. Poovey

Remember the three things that this war is about – Oil, Global Positioning, and a Police State in the United States. It isn’t about Weapons of Mass Destruction, Saddam Hussein’s mistreatment of Iraqis, or any other contrived reason put forth.

This war will give the United States a key area of control in the Middle East. The goal is to stabilize oil supplies by “acquiring” the large Iraqi oil reserves. We won’t be leaving Iraq, but instead will be creating permanent military bases there so that we can dominate the Middle East. We will be neighbors to Iran, and if we are serious about going after nations sponsoring terrorism, then neighboring Saudi Arabia should get concerned.

It is a foregone conclusion of this administration that we will establish permanent military bases in post-war Iraq. Although Bush talks about leaving Iraq, after almost 60 years we still have major bases in Germany and Japan.

The Bush administration is following the script of the Project for the New American Century issued in September 2000. This report was written by conservative interventionists that are worried that the United States has the perfect opportunity to establish a global empire, but may not take advantage of the situation.

The 2000 report actually is directly related to a 1992 document from the Defense Department. VP Cheney was the Secretary of Defense then. The 1992 document was written by Paul Wolfowitz, the current Deputy Defense Secretary.

The plan calls for “permanent U.S. military and economic domination of every region on the globe, unfettered by international treaty or concern” according to an article by Jay Bookman of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. If the U.S. is to emerge as a global empire as these people foresee, then we will have to continue to expand our military presence throughout the globe. In that manner we can truly become the global policeman, and nations across the world will look upon us with righteous indignation as we become the “American imperialists” others have always said we were.
