It is a foregone conclusion of this administration that we will establish permanent military bases in post-war Iraq. Although Bush talks about leaving Iraq, after almost 60 years we still have major bases in Germany and Japan.

The article is over a year old, but recently Democrats have been howling in indignation about us pulling our troops out of Germany, although it relieves a situation that has been a symbol of "American imperialism" to the Left since I was in college. The problem with a set of principles that basically can be reduced to "Whatever Bush proposes, we support the opposite position," is that you tend to run into yourself coming in the door if Bush does something that has long been a goal of the Left. Tends to make them look a bit silly.
