the particular situation in Florida

You kinda inflated Lindy's comments to make a premise for some of the political stuff. Her concerns have to do with the unique situation in Florida right now: All those illegals came to the area to work, generally below minimum wage, in an industry that's now on the ropes. Means of support gone, no prospect of public assistance, they won't just roll over and starve.

I don't see this as a strongly partisan issue. What we have here is a humanitarian crisis like we've seen all over the world, only this one's going on in Florida. It seems pretty clear that it's legitimate--dare I say almost routine?--for the government to extend the same assistance to the illegals in Florida as we've done many times overseas to help foreigners. The only difference in this case is that the foreigners are on American soil. It'd be criminal to deny them humanitarian aid, especially considering that their presence here in better times noticeably benefited the American economy. We owe 'em, and that ought to be a nonpartisan sentiment.

Right?
