Current Events » in reply to I so agree immigration reform is a valid issue

This is a major issue where conservatives have trouble with Bush.

I hear a lot from so-called "conservatives" who say they are going to vote for Kerry this year. But when you sound them out, their reasons are no different than the standard Democratic Party line.

Real conservatives are pissed at Bush in certain specific areas. A large one is the inability to control our borders, and this is probably number one on most conservative Bush gripe lists.

The standard response made when one proposes tightening the borders (blocking illegal immigration, and maybe even ramping down legal immigration for a while) is that we would suddenly be unable to find workers and nothing would get done.

When I looked it up, I found that there are many states where there are relatively few illegal immigrants. Somehow, these states still manage to grow crops, get the sheets changed in hotels, and get all the other jobs done that supposedly only illegals will do. Of course, they have to pay a bit more, which is where businesses become part of the problem.
