re: Another view from Najaf

Microwaves are short range radiation, they peter out after a few feet without immense power and adjustment. The size of the equipment to create microwaves that could reach the inner temple would require huge trucks the size of a semi on all sides of the temple. They would be RPG'd in a hotflash before they even got in position.

Even if it were possible. you want to send in a team assuming the armed resistance are all sick to their stomachs and wont fight you? Think again.

No this is a job that will either require risking high casualties or the destruction of the shrine. It can't be effectively gassed or stormed without first blowing the place up a bit (or a lot) first.

Now a method that would work....would be real deadly and leave the temple uninhabitable would be to drop an umnovable, several thousand pound radioactive cylinder into the courtyard by air and evacuate the area. Blow open the cannister and let the radiation do the rest.

However, that's inhumane and someone will have to clean it up. The temple will need to be vacant for years and its not a pretty picture either. All the methods so far thought up have major downsides and Tom's x-ray laser still hasn't been approved by the FCC or FDA. Maybe they could be faked to think there was a radiation bomb and come out. Providing they don't have Iranian equipped, Russian made rad counters with them and with these idiots, many would choose to die rather than come out.
