re: Nobody wants to be there.
In 1990 during the first Gulf War, I was in my early 20’s. I tried to join the military so I could help fight, but I failed the visual exam of the physical. They wouldn’t let me sign up. I even tried to get my congressman to grant me a waver so I could join the military. No luck.
I was disappointed. I wanted to serve my country. I wanted to earn my freedom.
If I was a young single man who could pass the physical, I would go sign up today.
