He approached his draft board for a deferment, was turned down, and then enlisted. Nothing at all wrong with that...my plan was similar if I had gotten a low draft number. Enlisting, or ROTC, gives you at least some control over your fate.

But let's not pretend, along with the Kerry campaign, that he was champing at the bit to go to Vietnam, shall we? I still have seen no evidence at all that he had a choice on his destination after he was in the Navy.
